An easy-flowing read, unashamed & personal.
Great story about emotional and physical stress during and after Hurricane Katrina. You can never over prepare for a disaster and the author did a great job in surviving all of the obstacles thrown her way being a single woman.
Everything's tested when hard times come. Susan Newton takes us right into survival mode. We go beyond the physical discomforts she endured when Hurricane Katrina struck, into the heart of friendships. We learn what it means to lean on those we've always counted on for companionship, never dreaming we'd have to count on them for the basic necessities of life.
This book paints such a vivid picture of the fear, hardship, and suffering endured by the victims of Katrina. Well written and very informative. I was actually surprised by how hard I found her words to read. Picturing myself in her situation with my five children...I don't know what I would have done! I can only hope as well as she did. Ms. Newton's book is definitely a good guide to follow in how to be prepared for and ride out natural disasters.
Susan's book rings clear and true. I too survived Hurricane Katrina! The ordeal that Susan shares was very similar to mine and 100,000's of others who struggled to survive under tremendously difficult and tragic circumstances. It is her journey but it echoes universal archetypal themes of descent and heroism. It is just real and honest. I recommend it to anyone who would like to walk a mile ( or 10,000 miles ) in a Huuricane Katrina survivors shoes.
