Now we can decide to look for the signs that all is not right. Save what we have, appreciate and love what we have, and enjoy life to the fullest. It cannot be done unless we identify with our truth, observe clearly, feel this reality and connect within. Most of us are caught in the trap of our ego self and the state of our world tells us that. How often do you feel anxious, worried or concerned? Angry and upset with others, have feelings of discontentment, feelings of being unfulfilled and unappreciated? When does your mind not just stop and for an instant in time, do nothing, think no thought and truly rest in solitude and silence, so that those negative feelings can be felt, observed, acknowledged, understood, accepted and then released? Resting your mind in nothingness is to rest your body. And a body which is well rested finds its path to passion, to live with energy and vitality. A mind of no-thought is a mind living consciously in the present moment. But how can anyone ask you to do this? You have never lived apart from thought, and now you are asked to go against the very thing that holds your make believe world together?

Silent The Power of Silence Gregory Nicholas Malouf 9781452538778 Books Reviews
Silent is a very personal and real account of Greg Malouf's journey thru pain into a life of freedom and joy. In this book, he doesn't hold anything back, letting the reader into his intimate innermost feelings, experiences and reactions. He demonstrates to the reader the steps he took after hitting bottom to regain control of his life, finding truth, peace and happiness.
When I first came across Silent I was initially captivated by its simplistic title and aesthetically pleasing front-cover. Although they say 'never judge a book by its cover' thankfully I did not follow that advice as purchasing Silent has been one of the best books I have ever bought. The book entails both a spiritual and personal insight into the human condition and delves into a range of issues and emotions that all individuals can relate to.
I found it particularly helpful the activities that Malouf incorporates as he uses them almost like a teaching aid to guide the reader into making powerful and positive changes in their life.
Although I may have bought the book on `shallow' pretenses, the depth and honesty that lies within is truly something to be read.
This book fell into my hands at the exact right moment in my life, without me even knowing it. It is profound and personal, for the writer and the reader. It moved me to whole-body involved tears because what was said, revealed and explained hit me so deep and opened up my insides so much that it hurt and relieved at the same time. It had me writing and noting down self reflections at every turn. Even now when I pick it up to read it again, I always find the right page for where I am at, emotionally and spiritually, to continue my journey. I believe that what makes it so connecting is that Greg reveals his own very personal life journey with the reader, all of its struggle and humaness, evolution and refreshing, so you as a reader feel it is a journey that is possible for you aswell. It has helped me to live a more conscious and grateful life, to find my courage and the strength and insights to continue the journey.
"You are never too tired to play and be with your kids" is something from this books that rings in my ears so often - thank you.
Silent is a book about the dynamics of the inner
self in the never-ending quest to triumph over the
negative aspects of the ego. Malouf teaches that
the ego cannot love. It is absolutely self-centered
and unloving. In fact, the ego is what separates us
unnecessarily from other people. Seeking acceptance
from others means that the ego is in control of your
life.
The book goes on to say that people cannot love
others if they cannot love and accept themselves
first. Accordingly, self awareness is the first
step to accomplish change in our lives. Very often,
accomplishing positive change in life is getting
into something bigger than ourselves.
Malouf indicates that meaningful boundaries are
a condition precedent to healthy psychological
functioning. So saying no to abuse is OK. You
should always listen to your intuitive feelings
and forgive people to get the all-important
emotional release.
The author encourages us to observe without evaluating
in order to acquire as many facts as possible to make
an intelligent decision. Sometimes, it's important to
dream and visualize your desires while acting positively
to work toward meritorious goals and desired outcomes.
Ultimately, we should value our true desires.
Silent is an excellent resource on the dynamics of
managing ourselves so that the ego is well under control.
Only then, we are able to love ourselves and others by
extension of our own acceptance and firm psychological grounding.
There was far too much avbnbout the author. It may have been relevant, but it seemed very self-indulgent to me. I stopped reading it half way through as there was nothing new to me in the book.
Silent' the title was captivating in itself. I read this book based on a referral from a very good friend who had suffered long time depression and anxiety. 'Silent' author shares his compelling journey and gently shows us ways of finding the courage to face the truth that ultimately gives us choices we thought we never had.
No longer do I feel helpless. I feel the need to share this with so many others that are looking for the peace of mind that I was looking for. An incredible read!
Malouf's journey was emotional, challenging and confronting and in turn the catalyst that ultimately set him free. Thank you for sharing your journey.
For me This book was far from SILENT.
Silent came to me by recommendation from a friend who said it provided an interesting insight into the human experience. They were correct, but Silent offered so much more! Malouf punctuates the novel with his own life experiences, giving the lessons he shares greater meaning and understanding. The book imparted in me lessons that I have not yet learned in my life, and whilst I still am excited to learn them myself, Malouf's insights offer me a framework with which I plan to approach these hurdles. The book has inspired me to critically look at the way I live my life and conduct myself as a person, knowing always that the power to change is completely from within.
