Captain Ben Hawkins is finishing up a routine Army inspection at the Tupelo Chemical Research Facility when he discovers that several pounds of the nerve toxin VX-212 slated for destruction can’t be accounted for. Soon an FBI team is on the trail of Mahmoud, who can’t forget his father’s fate in the Iraq-Iran war, and Saman, whose parents were on Iran Flight 655, shot down by the American cruiser, the USS Vincennes. Their hatred of the country they blame for their losses leads them to the United States for revenge. Colonel Kashani, a senior Iranian intelligence officer, stumbles upon the plan and he understands the dangers of enraging the American dragon. His challenge is to stop a terrorist plot without being ensnared by the FBI. And when the FBI investigation reaches a dead end, Hawkins must decide whether to risk his career—and possible arrest—to stop the attack, even if it means working with a foreign agent.

A Touch of Nerves DC Hampton Books

Compliments and many thanks to D. C. Hampton for an intriguing and very entertaining read. I'll certainly recommend the book to everyone I can and will be looking forward to a sequel - perhaps, even a movie.

Having been raised around cops and being a retired career naval officer, I've spent a lifetime surrounded by military, security and government agency types. The author has truly captured their essence in his characters right down to the way they think, speak and interact with each other and the rest of the world. From decades of low level training and drills in mass casualty response, information/physical security and counter terrorism measures, it's obvious that Hampton has done prodigious research to incorporate those topics into his story so authentically. His frighteningly clever, intricate and believable scenario makes me sincerely hope he's on our side. Perhaps the public persona of D. C. Hampton as an audiologist and author is just deep cover for an actual clandestine agency spook operative?

A Touch of Nerves DC Hampton Books Reviews

great read. starts a little slow but then picks up speed. Quite a few twists and turns right until the end.
I really enjoyed this book. I found the subject/plot to be most interesting. The main character, Captain Ben Hawkins was very likeable. I hope Mr. D.C. Hampton writes a sequel. An intriguing mystery!
A thriller with more realism, procedural and geographic color, inter-agency politics and current events freshness than you might expect. If we had a second 9/11, how would it happen? And even more important, how would it be stopped? .Be sure to wear your hazmat suit.
This is a modern day suspense thriller that highlights very current issues. DC Hampton has a knack for tying in suspense with a very believable plot that makes this a real page-turner. The characters come across as very real from Army Investigator Ben Hawkins to the government figures and shadowy characters who appear and disappear throughout the book. This is NOT a military story! It's a story about how far people will go to satisfy their need for hatred and revenge. If you like to sit on the edge of your seat while you read, I highly recommend this book!
'A Touch of Nerves" by DC Hampton is a page turner that is a perfect beach read. The story gets your interest in the beginning and keeps it to the very end. The stories main character Captain Benjamin Hawkins is someone we can all relate to male or female.

A Touch of NervesThe book blends relavant recent historic events with present day realities we all live with.
If you are a fan of Homeland, you will thoroughly enjoy reading A Touch of Nerves. The challenges confronting Captain Benjamin Hawkins unfold quickly. Follow procedures or use your intuition to identify and track the fundamentalist terrorists.
From the very first page, the attention to detail places you squarely in the middle of the action. The characters are portrayed in a fashion that permits an understanding of their motivational roots, which adds to the realism of the story. A Touch of Nerves is a real page turner and a must read.
Foreign agents from the Middle East have hatched a horrendous plot to murder many thousands of Americans by stealing just 4 lbs of a toxic gas from a storage facility in the U.S. and turning the poison against its makers by releasing it in populated areas. A lowly U.S. Army captain, accustomed to chasing mundane crimes in the military, doggedly pursues sudden discrepancies in the records of an Army arsenal in Virginia. He learns that some poisons have, indeed, been lost. But who has them? How would they be used? Where? When?

Soon clashing arms of the U.S. government (FBI, NSA, CIA, Homeland Security, top Army brass) lay out sweeping plans to counter the threat. They deploy vast manpower with arcane skills. But they learn nothing useful.

Capt. Benjamin Hawkins, out-ranked and bereft of technical knowledge, risks his career by questioning his superiors, operating alone on his uncomplicated instincts, and keeping one over-riding humane goal in mind; a terror assault far worse than that at the World Trade Center must be stopped

All of this unfolds in an astonishing, polished and deeply-researched first novel by D.C Hampton. Its intricate intrigue among conflicted agencies are reminiscent of David Baldacci's The Hit--except the Hampton suspense thriller preceded Baldacci's. It may surprise readers to learn that Hampton is actually a practicing audiologist in New York's Westchester County. His skill in restoring perfect pitch to his patients' hearing has been turned in this novel into delivering prose on a level that commands-- and rewards-- its readers' rapt attention. We must all hope to hear more from Dr. Hampton.
